Ruby Flower Records has decided to welcome independent
avant-garde labels from all around the world, opening the way for new forms of expression and encouraging original artistic creation. We believe that art -- such as jazz – is one of the most wonderful ways to bond humans.
"Virgo Suite"
Mauro Bonomi / Paolo Cattaneo / Fabio Mignola Ref : ILCD-RF01
The CD is the result of a musical interaction between Mauro and me which took place on a clear, cold winter evening. A quiet dialogue between friends (after spending an entire day working intensively) that leads into a story characterized by multiple affective shadings,
going beyond a redundant musical practice. Backed by a sensitive and thoughtful sound architect like Fabio Mignola, we feel immediately
at ease. It is not difficult to find an improvisational dimension open to all fields in which even the timbric aspects of the soprano saxophone and those more properly percussive of the piano seem to manifest
themselves in a free and uninhibited expressive context. As in front of a crackling fire, we get a feeling of warmth and of well-being tied to a sound-based experience in its more authentically
communicative value. The embodied musical ludic pulsion is revealed through a dynamic interaction, fruit of a nearly childish spontaneity to
which we have decided not to renounce. Thus, themes, chord structures and tonal melodic fragments reach towards distant regions in a playful
whirl of sounds, far beyond the traditional language. We would love to point out that the choice is not intellectualistic, drawing-room style or emphasized with special effects, but it is rather driven by the necessity to construct a pregnant dialogue that we wish to share with our listeners.
Paolo Cattaneo=== 2009
"Laughters Necklace of Tears" Eric Revis Ref : ILCD-RF09 Line up : Eric Revis-bass Orrin Evans - piano Gerald Cleaver - drums John Ellis - tnr saxophone,soprano saxophone and bass clarinet Stacy Dillard - tenor saxophone Oz Noy - guitar
Revis delves into the myriad of influences that have informed his development for many years. From the writings of surrealist Andre Breton, a brief excursion into the world of hillbilly music, to an adaptation of a Paul Hindemith Sonata. “Laughter’s Necklace of Tears” proves that both compositionally and instrumentally Revis’s trajectory into greatness is imminent. Eric is joined on his sophomore effort by a stellar group of forward thinking musicians.
“Eric’s sound is the sound of doom - big, thick, percussive.” Bradford Marsalis
